Police Reconstruct Crime Scene
A honeymoon trip, a fresh start. But for Raja Raghuvanshi, his honeymoon trip to Meghalaya became his last trip. Weeks following his sudden disappearance, the truth emerged much more horrific than anyone could have ever imagined. Meghalaya Police say they now have a pretty solid idea of how the 26-year-old Indore resident was brutally murdered thanks to a painstaking reconstruction of the crime.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) attempted to recreate the circumstances by retracing the whole path the accused had walked from the parking lot to the viewing area in Sohra (Cherrapunji).
Two Weapons, Three Strikes
In reconstructing the crime scene, the police have verified that two machetes were used in carrying out the murder. One has already been recovered, it was purchased from Guwahati, and was left and recovered behind. The second machete is still missing.
“Three blows in all,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem stated. “Vishal hit him first, then Anand, and the third one by Akash.” This was all established through the SIT reconstruction process.
Wife Plotted with Lover
To the shock of everybody, police are accusing Raja’s own wife Sonam Raghuvanshi of conspiring to kill him. Her boyfriend Raj Singh Kushwaha was also involved in the conspiracy, the police said. They had planned the entire thing even before they set out for Meghalaya.
Sonam escaped after committing the murder. She was subsequently found sitting quietly beside a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. That’s where she gave up but by then, her secret was already revealed.
Victim Pushed into Gorge
Raja was not even given the opportunity to resist. The police say that after he was struck by the machetes, his body was pushed over a deep gorge off Cherrapunji so the crime would appear as an accident. Sonam is said to have witnessed all this happening.
The place that was meant to be filled with love and memories, was also the same location where the act of betrayal turned deadly.
5 Accused in Custody
Five individuals who were involved in the murder have been nabbed by Meghalaya Police: Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Singh Kushwah, and three others, Vishal, Akash, and Anand. They were all involved in carrying out what now seems to be a well-planned murder.

Why did this go on to become so a cold-blooded plan? Was it love, greed, or money? Police are also investigating further. But nothing will ever be good enough for Raja’s family of grief in Indore.
