Mosquito-Borne Diseases During the Rainy Season
Whenever the monsoon knocks, there is a feeling of greenery and coolness all around, but at the same time, the mosquito menace also increases rapidly. Accumulation of dirty water, a moist environment, and a lack of cleanliness, all together give mosquitoes a chance to thrive. And these mosquitoes become carriers of many dangerous diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya, Zika virus and filariasis. In such a situation, if you want to protect yourself and your family’s health from these diseases, then you have to be alert in advance. In this article, we will talk about 5 important and effective ways to protect yourself from mosquito-borne diseases during the rainy season.
1. Prevent water stagnation
After the rain, water often accumulates in pots, old tires, coolers, tanks on the roof or open containers around the house. This stagnant clean water is the favorite place for mosquitoes to lay eggs. Especially the Aedes mosquito, which spreads dengue, bites during the day, and thrives only in clean water.
So keep in mind:
Change the water in your cooler, flower vase, and bucket every week.
Do not store items like tyres, coconut shells, and broken utensils on the roof.
Keep the drainage of the roof and garden clean.
Always keep water tanks covered.
2. Use of mosquito nets and repellents
The easiest and traditional way to avoid mosquito bites is a mosquito net. Nowadays, herbal and electronic mosquito repellents are also available in the market, which keep mosquitoes away without any harmful chemicals.
Please note:
Use a mosquito net while sleeping at night, especially for children and the elderly.
Use mosquito cream, spray or electric repellent.
Use mosquito nets or light curtains to avoid dengue even during the day.

Wear light, cotton, and full-sleeved clothes.
Wear pajamas or track pants to cover your legs.
When sending children to school, make them wear bodysuits or leggings under the uniform.
4. Do not ignore the initial symptoms
During the rainy season, symptoms like fever, headache, muscle pain, red rashes on the skin can be of dengue or malaria. If treatment is not received in time, these diseases can also be fatal.
What you should do:
Contact the doctor immediately as soon as you get fever.
Do not delay in checking the number of platelets.
Do not take painkillers like aspirin during fever without consultation.
Instead of self-treatment, get yourself examined by a government hospital or a certified doctor.
