Senior Citizen Welfare in Haryana
As all of us know, senior Citizens are the backbone of our country, and currently India is moving toward developing into a developed country. During this phase of progress, our senior citizens played a very important role. As a reward this is the responsibility of government to take care of our senior Citizens .
Today, we are going to discuss the Haryana government initiative for Senior citizens.
State Award For Old Persons
This scheme was launched by Haryana in 2008-09, named as State Award for older persons. Main motive behind this scheme was to keep senior citizens highly motivated. The date decided by the Haryana government to give these awards is 1st of October.
Categories under this award are as follows
- Centenarian Award
- Best Mother Award
- Courage & Bravery Award
- Best Panchayat Award
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Best Voluntary Organization Award (Best NGO)
- (i) Senior Painter Award (ii) Senior Sculpture Award (iii) Senior Practicing Musician/Singer Award (iv) Senior Practicing Dance Award.
- Senior Practicing Sportsperson Award
- Best Old Age Home Award
- Best Day Care Centre Award
ESTABLISHMENT OF SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB IN ALL DISTRICT URBAN ESTATES OF HARYANA
Senior citizens’ clubs have been formed by the Haryana government in urban areas. where senior citizens can do get together and utilize their time . Building are constructed by the HUDA .

Home for Aged and Infirm, Rewari
Haryana Government is providing a home for Old and Destitute Persons in Rewari. Objective behind this scheme is to provide social security to old and disabled persons. The capacity of this home is 100 people . Haryana government is providing free food ,clothes, medication to old persons here.Old man/Women who is having age more than 60 years and disabled persons with age more than 45 years can stay here .

Samarth Vriddh SEWA Ashram Scheme
Haryana government is running the Samarth Vriddh SEWA Ashram Scheme. The objective of the Scheme is to improve the life quality of Senior Citizens who are residents of Haryana. Haryana Government is providing the following amenities to them:
- To provide a secure and comfortable living space for the senior citizens, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
- promoting a sense of independence and autonomy by assisting with daily activities such as bathing, grooming, and medication management.
- Providing medical care and nursing support for those with chronic illnesses or disabilities.
- To offer recreational activities, social events, and companionship to prevent social isolation and promote mental health.
- To help the senior citizens learn new skills and guide them towards success in their fields of endeavour, instilling a sense of self-confidence and self-reliance.

Old Age Samman Allowance Scheme
Under this scheme Haryana government is providing a pension to elderly persons. Currently, under this scheme Haryana government is providing 3000 to individuals, so that Senior citizens will not be dependent on anyone for their day-to-day requirements.
Eligibility criteria to take the benefits :
- Age should be more than 60 years.
- The person should be a domicile and resident of Haryana.
- He is not getting the pension from any government organization.
