In a significant move shortly after Diwali, the Madhya Pradesh government announced an increase in the monthly stipend being paid under the Ladli Behna Yojana. From now onwards, more than 1.27 crore state women will get ₹1,500 per month, as against ₹1,250 at present. The move is being hailed as a major windfall for Madhya Pradesh women of rural and urban areas.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced this at a public function on women empowerment and pride of the tribals. He further said that women had already been given an additional ₹250 on Raksha Bandhan, which took the amount to ₹1,500 for the month. This higher amount would be the new minimum monthly assistance from Diwali onwards.
Special Budget of ₹27,147 Crore for Women
To assist in funding this financial aid, the MP government has approved a special budget of ₹27,147 crore for women, of which ₹18,699 crore is exclusively for the Ladli Behna Scheme. This is a show of the state’s eagerness to support women, particularly those who need economic security.
He also said that this step would not just bring relief in the shape of money but also empower women in Madhya Pradesh. The hope is to make women take independent decisions on their and their families’ behalf.
