Salman Khan’s Blackbuck Case Makes a Comeback.Salman Khan Blackbuck Case Reopens: High Court Hearing on July 28

Two decades later, the spotlight returns

It’s been 26 years. The dust had settled. The cameras had turned away. But now, the blackbuck poaching case that once shook Bollywood is back  and it’s roaring louder than ever.

In a surprising move, the Rajasthan government has reignited the legal flame by filing a leave to appeal in the High Court. Their target? The clean chits given to Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam, Sonali Bendre, and politician Dushyant Singh. All of them were with Salman Khan that night in Kankani village, back in 1998, when the blackbuck was shot during a film shoot.

One night. One bullet. Years of drama.

That night in the desert still haunts the headlines. The endangered blackbuck a symbol of grace and protection under Indian wildlife laws was allegedly gunned down. Outrage followed. Protests erupted. And in 2018, Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in jail. But the others walked away free of charges.

Until now.The state won’t let it go

The government’s lawyers say they’ve waited long enough. They believe the other accused should stand trial again. Since the legal deadline to appeal passed years ago, they’ve asked for special permission, a leave to appeal to reopen the doors of justice.

Justice Manoj Kumar Garg has agreed to hear them out. He’s clubbed this new petition with Salman Khan’s other pending cases. It all comes to a head on July 28.

And the story continues

For some, this is justice long delayed. For others, it’s déjà vu. But for the people of Kankani, for the Bishnoi community who worship the blackbuck and for those still carrying the weight of that night , this case was never just about a hunt.

It was about truth. And that’s what everyone’s hoping will finally come out, loud and clear, in court this July.
