Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV : The demand for electric cars in India is increasing continuously and in view of this, Toyota is now going to bring its first electric model to the Indian market. Yes, Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV can be launched in India by the end of this year. Its first glimpse was seen globally in Brussels and in India it was introduced at the India Mobility Global Expo. Since then people are very excited about it.

Toyota had already made it clear that this five-seater midsize electric SUV will be available for sale in the second half of the year. Although the launch of its twin model Maruti Suzuki E Vitara is expected to be fixed by September, it is expected that Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV can hit the market a little earlier or around this time.

This vehicle is built on an updated 27PL architecture and its look matches a lot with Maruti E Vitara. Its length is 4,285 mm, width is 1,800 mm and height is 1,640 mm, while the wheelbase is 2,700 mm. That is, this car is bigger than both Yaris Cross and E Vitara. This SUV will be produced at SMC’s factory in Gujarat, from where it will also be exported.

In the international market, this electric SUV can come in two different battery pack variants. The first variant has a 49 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, which generates 144 hp of power and will be available only in front-wheel drive option. The second variant will have a 61 kWh battery, in which the customer can get both front-wheel and all-wheel drive options. Its FWD version will give 174 hp power, while in the AWD version this figure will reach 184 hp as it will get an extra motor of 48 kW on the rear axle.

The biggest feature of this car is considered to be its range. It is being told that this SUV will be able to run more than 500 km on a single charge. Apart from this, it will also have the facility of fast DC charging, so that the battery can be charged in less time.

Talking about the features, Toyota has included many modern and premium features in it. This SUV will get a 360-degree panoramic camera system which will make driving more safe and easy. The driver’s seat will get the option of power adjustment and there will also be an electronic parking brake with auto hold option. A 10.1-inch touchscreen has been given inside the car which will handle the infotainment, while a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is also included in its cabin. Wireless charging pad, slide and reclining seats, ADAS safety features and JBL’s premium audio system will also be available in it.

Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV will compete directly with vehicles like Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV and Tata’s upcoming Curve EV. But its range of 500+ km and Toyota’s brand value make it a very reliable option. Given the growing preference for electric vehicles in India, this car can prove to be a big step for Toyota.

Now it remains to be seen what its price is. Although the company has not disclosed its prices, according to experts, its price can be between Rs 20 to 25 lakh. If this happens, then this car can become a great option for mid-segment electric SUV buyers.

This first electric SUV from Toyota will prove to be a new chapter not only for India but also for the company. Customers are eagerly waiting for its launch and it is believed that its launch can happen by the last quarter of this calendar year.
