After Hyundai, now Kia is also going to enter the budget EV segment of India. Till now Kia had launched expensive electric cars like EV6 and EV9, but now the company is going to launch two locally made affordable electric cars in India. Both these vehicles will be introduced in the market between 2025 and 2026.
1. Kia Carens EV – India’s first locally made electric MPV
In the next two to three months, Kia is going to launch its first Made-in-India electric MPV – Carens EV.
This car will be the electric version of the existing Carens, which will come directly as a facelift model. That is, the looks and features will be better than before.
Its design can be completely changed from the front – it can be given a closed front grille, new bumper and active grill shutters which open only when needed so that the battery system can be cooled. This will also improve the range of the vehicle.
The design of the wheels will also be more aerodynamic and almost covered, which will save energy.

Talking about the inside, it can be given a new gear selector, center console and a dual panoramic display which will also include special features related to electric cars like charging station locator.
This MPV can have a 51.4 kWh NMC battery and a 169 hp motor, which is expected to give a range of up to 425 km.
2. Kia Syros EV – For those who like compact SUVs
Kia will launch its second local EV Syros EV in April 2026. It will be a compact electric SUV that will focus on comfort, convenience and smart features.
This car will also be different from the ICE model Syros – it will also see some changes like the Carens EV, such as a new design, closed grille and EV specific features.
Kia will use LFP batteries in this model, which are cheaper, safer and more durable than NMC batteries.
Exide Energy is manufacturing these batteries in India itself, which will reduce the cost and keep the price of the vehicle competitive.
The range of Syros EV can be more than 400 km.
Kia’s goal – to gain a foothold in the Indian market
Kia is now moving away from premium cars and targeting those buyers who want to buy electric cars on a budget. Both vehicles will be made in India itself, which will reduce prices and provide better service support.
Why is this launch special?
These two vehicles will be Kia’s first local manufacturing EVs in India.
