In a proud and historic moment, 17 women cadets graduate from the National Defence Academy for the first time, joining 300 male peers in reshaping India’s defense forces.

A Milestone Moment at Khadakwasla

A day etched into history, in the morning the National Defence Academy (NDA) Pune was marked with change and success. One of the first co-ed batches in NDA, seventeen female cadets who were admitted after receiving a landmark Supreme Court directive in 2022 along with 300 male counterparts were also commissioned as officers today.

Marching Into a New Era

At Khetrpal Parade ground the cadets filed past the ‘Antim Pag’ as a symbolic end to their training in a new chapter of India’s army after the march. The 148th Course Passing Out Parade witnessed an address by none other than General VK Singh, the present Governor of Mizoram and former Army Chief. In his address at the function, Gen Singh called the women cadets “Nari Shakti”, their image symbolizing not just women’s development but also the development done by women.

Academic Feats With Military Discipline

This day was also the academic fest as Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) awarded 339 Batch degrees. Of them, 84 obtained their BSc degrees; 85 overall in Computer Science, 59 Arts, and 111 B.Tech. Division Cadet Captain Shriti Daksh bagged the honor of topper in the Bachelor of Arts stream, Division. As she recalled her journey, she mentioned the emotional and difficult process which eventually turned into a tight bond with her instructors and peers.

Carrying the Torch of Legacy

For Daksh, whose father had also studied in NDA till his graduation this moment was more than just a personal success – a lineage that the family kept alive. Her success (like most of the other batch) is a port of an inclusive, assertive Indian military to come.

Breaking Barriers, Inspiring Generations

In her remarks, Vice Chancellor Poonam Tondon said these cadets…women who will be first ever and others to follow will rise as exemplary leaders who are not just honor and courage embodied: they redefine what leadership means. The pravachan of their true Guru Dakshina to NDA, she said will be the pride they attain both to the institute and the nation in all their future brave acts of service.
