A Secret Plan Years in the Making
For over 18 months Ukraine quietly planned an operation so bold, it would leave Russia reeling. Called Operation Spider’s Web. The mission was run from inside Russian territory right next to a regional office of the FSB Russia’s powerful security agency. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed this week that the operation’s success was no accident but the result of careful, patient planning.

41 Russian Warplanes Struck Overnight
In the early hours of Sunday, the silence broke. Ukraine launched 117 drones toward five key Russian military airfields. By morning 41 Russian aircraft had been hit.
This was far more than just any plane, however. The targets were far-range bombers such as the Tu-95 and Tu-22 and including the A-50, Russia’s airborne radar surveillance and command system. Ukraine states that “34 % of Russia’s strategic missile carrying bombers were destroyed or damaged severely.”

Drones Launched from Inside Russia
What shocked military analysts even more was how the drones reached their targets. They didn’t fly from Ukraine. Instead they were secretly smuggled into Russia hidden inside trucks and wooden crates. Once in position the drones were launched from areas just kilometers away from the airbases. Even Russia’s defense ministry admitted the attacks came from within its borders a major embarrassment for Moscow.

A Record Breaking Long Distance Strike
This was Ukraine’s longest range strike since the war began. Some drones traveled over 4,000 kilometers to reach targets like Belaya airbase in eastern Siberia and Olenya in the Arctic. Military bloggers close to the Kremlin called it a “Black Day For Russian Aviation,” admitting that defenses were completely caught off guard.
Ceasefire Offered -But War Far From Over
Despite the massive blow dealt to Russian forces, Zelenskyy once again offered a full ceasefire. Still, urged global powers to tighten sanctions saying Russia must face pressure from “every direction diplomatic, economic, and military.” Talks are expected to resume in Istanbul soon but this attack will surely change the tone.
Ukraine Promises More Strikes Ahead
This isn’t the end. Zelenskyy made it clear Ukraine has more operations planned. With Spider’s Web, the world saw a turning point. Ukraine is no longer just defending it’s reaching deep into enemy ground.
