Heavy rains have brought both relief and ruin to Meerut in the past few days. While the showers cooled down the rising summer heat, they also led to chaos in the city from waterlogging to heartbreaking accidents.
One such heartbreaking event took place on Kila Parikshitgarh Road. A huge tree dropped abruptly over a speeding bike. A two-year-old child travelling with her father lost her life instantly. Her father had to be rushed to the hospital after being seriously injured. The sudden calamity left the locals very disturbed.
City Struggles With Poor Drainage and Flooded Roads
Rain hasn’t stopped since the morning, and the old infrastructure of Meerut city is failing to cope. Khairnagar, Begumpul, Summer Garden, Zakir Colony, and Friends Colony are submerged in water, with people even using buckets to flush out water from their homes. Mohkampur (Partapur Ward-6) is among the worst hit by rain that flooded several houses.
Locals Blame Neglect and Poor Planning
Residents voiced frustration over the lack of proper drainage systems and pucca roads. They had complained previously too, they claimed, but nobody did anything. Areas like Lisari Road, Ganganagar, Shastri Nagar, Baghpat Road, Sadar Bazar, and Shyam Nagar Road were being converted into mini-rivers. There are barely any drains here, and the roads are broken. Every year it’s the same story. It’s not just about inconvenience, it’s about safety now.
Rainfall Could Break Records This July
According to Dr. M. Shameem from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Modipuram, the rainfall in July 2025 may set a new record. He stated that in just 10 days, Meerut has received 152 mm of rain, which is already more than the 151 mm recorded during the same time last year.
Weather Forecast for July 11 in Meerut
The city weather department states that on July 11, the skies will be fairly clear with prospects of light rain in certain areas. The mercury is expected to reach an all-time high of 32°C while the minimum will likely be 25°C. The humidity level will be between 60% and 90%, and hence the weather will remain humid.
Farmers Welcome the Rain
Not everything in the news is bad. For farmers in the region, the rain has been a blessing. Crops like paddy, sugarcane, and fodder are thriving. Fields are full of moisture, and many farmers have already begun planting with a fresh hope for a good harvest this year.
