There’s an official warning sent out from SBI (State Bank of India) for the account holder to be aware of the fake calls and for security purposes. The bank has sent out official numbers from where the call can be expected, and any other call can be ignored.
In this new Era, where everything is going digital, the scammers have also upgraded themselves. As we can see the increase in the facilities coming online, then more options are available for Cyber Crime. They both are going hand in hand. Keeping this in mind, the State Bank of India (SBI) announced proper information so that the customers don’t get into a trap and lose all their hard earned money. This cybercrime is increasing rapidly and there was a need to update all the customers about this information.
The official number which SBI will be using for calling for the customers is going to start with : +91-1600. If you receive any call starting with this number, then you don’t have to worry about the caller, that is a genuine number from the SBI (State Bank of India) staff. These calls are only being used for transactional and service related calls.
Reason the Bank calls their customers :
There are multiple reasons why the Bank call their customers. Some of them are:
- Need to provide important notification about the bank to customer
- Sometimes there is a need to confirm if there is any high amount transaction from the account.
- Update about the new services which are being introduced in the banks.
- Any additional offers available for the users.
- Block of bank account or card. etc.
As you can see there are multiple reasons why a bank calls their customer. Many cyber crimes are taking advantage of this facility, there is a need to update the customers to differentiate between the real and fake banking calls.
SBI (State Bank of India) have also stated to not to share any OTP or password with any one on the call, even if it is from the official number.

SBI ( State Bank of India) has stated that for them, the “Consumers safety is top most priority”. They are fully concerned about the rising situation of the CyberCrime and want to help the customer by every means possible. They have announced that, any call from the number +91-1600, consumers can pick the call without hesitation and discuss all their issues with respect to their account. They don’t have to worry if that is fake or real.
