Chandigarh Weather Update: Cloudy Weekend, Low Rain Chances as Monsoon Axis Shifts, Says IMD

Prepared for a week-long rain and overcast weather, Chandigarh is now set to face a dry weekend. In its recent forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the city would witness partly cloudy skies with low chances of rain on Saturday and Sunday.

Monsoon Axis Moves Southward

The IMD officials shared that the monsoon axis has shifted further south and is currently passing over Bikaner. This change is the key cause of decline in rain chances for Chandigarh and the surrounding area.

Though cloudy conditions will prevail, real showers will be few. However, because of the current high humidity levels, minimal chances of light drizzles in some areas do exist.

Temperature on an Upward Trend Once Again

There was a sudden temperature fluctuation in Chandigarh during the past two days. Thursday, the high for the day was 30.8°C. It had gone up to 34.9°C by Friday, a slightly more than usual for this time of year.

Also. The low increased by one degree, which was 24.3°C and went up to 25.7°C again. Day temperatures of the next three days would be 33°C to 34°C and night temperatures would be 26°C to 27°C, according to IMD.

Rain Likely to Return Next Week

Though the weekend is predicted to be dry, the weather bureau indicated that rains could come back next week. The air is still humid, and as soon as the monsoon trough comes back northwards, rains could also increase in the area.
