Bihar to get 6 new airports in Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Munger, and more! Cabinet approves ₹150 crore plan to boost trade, tourism, and air connectivity. AAI signs MoU with Bihar Govt.
Cabinet Clears the Runway for Bihar’s Air Revolution
In a development that’s all set to give a fillip to Bihar’s aspirations, the state cabinet has paved the way for a historic MoU with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The deal opens the doors to building small airports in the state’s six potential new destinations —Munerb, Valmikinagar, Muzaffarpur, Saharsa, Madhubani, and Veerpur with a view to connecting Bihar heartland with the national skies.
₹150 Crore Boost to Regional Air Infrastructure
To jumpstart this aerial makeover, the Bihar state government will infuse ₹25 crore into each new location. That’s a sum of ₹150 crore in phase one; a clear indication this is not just something written on paper. These future airports aren’t so much supposed to accommodate giant international hubs as to serve as vital arteries for connecting people, business, and culture — especially in areas without good access.
Connecting the Unconnected: A New Era Dawns
Until now, most of these could be reached only with great difficulty from India’s expanding aviation map. With this plan, not only will travel become more practical, but sectors such as education, health care , and commerce will finally receive the jet fuel they deserve. Picture, for example, a student from Saharsa getting on a flight to Delhi for college without a half-day train ride. That’s the difference this project claims to offer.
More Airports Already in the Pipeline
This is not Bihar’s first leap toward the sky. In fact, earlier this year, Rajgir, Bhagalpur, Raxaul, and Siwan airports were sanctioned, with Rajgir being a greenfield project and Raxaul an old airport getting ready to be expanded and operational. Bihta is also to get a second civil enclave to ease the rush at Patna airport — an overburdened lifeline to date.

When Does Construction Start?
Both AAI and Bihar will first conduct a survey of land in all six sites, sources said. The target? At least two airports are expected to break ground in the next two years. The journey from the blueprint to the runway will be a shared investment between the state and the Centre.
From Runways to Revenue: Bihar’s Economic Engine Takes Off
This is about much more than infrastructure — it is Bihar’s ticket to faster growth. More airports mean more jobs, more visitors, and more hope. Bihar After the blockbuster success of Darbhanga Airport in 2023, Bihar now dreams big in the sky with a clear vision supported by unstoppable momentum
