Yashasvi Jaiswal scores a gritty century in Leeds so he becomes the first Indian left handed opener to do it in England. He joins an elite club with Tendulkar and Pant and India stands tall in the first Test.
Jaiswal’s Moment of Glory in England
In a match that had cricket fans biting their nails the young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal lit up the pitch in Headingley Leeds with a classy and composed century against England. With every shot he reminded the world why he is not just another young prospect but a future star in the making. He faced a tough English attack and reached his hundred in 144 balls and he hit 16 boundaries and one towering six.
History Made First Left Handed Indian Opener to Score a Century in England
Jaiswal did not just score runs but he rewrote history. This innings made him the first left handed Indian opener to score a century in England. And to make the moment even better it was his fifth Test century so this was not a one off it is becoming a pattern. He is only 22 and his hunger and maturity in the middle have drawn comparisons with some of India’s best.
Fighting Pain Not Just Bowlers
The road to the century was not easy. As he crossed the 90s he started getting cramps but like a warrior who would not give up Jaiswal held firm. He took short medical breaks and stretched and pushed through the pain so he could reach his well deserved hundred. He raised his bat with a single and the crowd went wild and so did social media.
Joining Tendulkar and Pants Elite Club
This century was more than just about personal success so it placed him among cricket’s greats. Yashasvi is now the third youngest Indian to score centuries in both England and Australia and that record was earlier held by Tendulkar and Rishabh Pant. This is not just a milestone but a big statement.
India Off to a Dream Start in Anderson Tendulkar Trophy
By tea on Day 1 of the first Test in the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy series India were 215 for 2 and Jaiswal was not out on 100 and captain Shubman Gill was going strong on 58. The pair frustrated the English bowlers so they did not lose a single wicket in the second session.
As the series began India could not have asked for a better start and fans could not have asked for a more thrilling knock.
