Indian farmers are anxiously waiting for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’s 20th installment, but the government is as tight-lipped so far. All were awaiting the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to announce it on 18 July from Motihari in Bihar. But nothing was announced during the day. The delay is causing worry among the crores of farmers who survive on this ₹2000 installment every three months.
Last Month’s Installment Was Released Prematurely, Why the Delay This Time?
The 19th PM Kisan installment was released on 24 February, even before time. That had created hopes that the next installment also could be released on time. But the farmers were waiting since June, and now over half of July has also passed without hearing anything.
In his recent speech, PM Modi spoke about the benefits given to the Bihar’s farmers. He said that more than ₹1500 crore was deposited into the accounts of more than 5 lakh farmers in Motihari. But no word about the 20th installment has been heard, which has disappointed many.
Has This Happened Before?
Looking at the past six years, delay has been the rarity. Only once, during the 2020 lockdown due to COVID-19, did the payment arrive late. Even then, it was not a delay in the same vein; the December–March payment was received on 4 April 2020, rather than March. All payments since have been prompt.
It has won over farmers’ trust, but the current delay is testing their patience.
July Installments Tend to Arrive Early
Usually, the payment for the May–July period comes before or towards the start of July. In 2023, the funds came into accounts on 27 July, a day later than expected. But if the payment does not come before 27 July 2025, it will be the first time in this period that the payment has been so late.
If it does not come until August, technically speaking, it will officially break the scheme’s record of timely payments.
Will The Record Be Broken This Time?
Farmers are now questioning will the record be broken this time? The scheme has been in a clean record for the past 6 years. ₹2000 installment has been punctual, except for a one-time pandemic delay. Government silence is now raising doubts.
The farmers are anticipating an announcement in the coming days of July. Otherwise, the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana may face criticism for the first serious delay since its launch.
The delay in the PM Kisan 20th installment has created uncertainty for crores of farmers. As there has not been a word from the government, all fingers are now crossed for the last week of July. If the ₹2000 payment doesn’t get credited until then, it can be marked as a rare malfunction in an otherwise smooth-running scheme.
