Pakistan Army Chief Nuclear Threat: The tense relations between India and Pakistan took a new turn when Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir threatened a nuclear attack. After this statement, the Punjab Police has tightened security vigilance across the state. According to sources, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav held continuous meetings with senior officials in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Bathinda, Patiala, and Ludhiana in the last 48 hours and reviewed the situation.
DGP’s warning – Attempts to spread unrest in border areas may intensify
According to the Indian Express report, in the meetings, DGP Gaurav Yadav clearly mentioned General Munir’s recent statement. He warned the officials that Pakistan may intensify its old strategy of spreading instability through gangsters and separatist groups, especially in a sensitive border state like Punjab.
According to a senior officer, the DGP said that even before Pakistan’s support, there had been attempts to incite violent activities in Punjab. He also said that Punjab-centric violent groups are not only present in Pakistan, but they also have deep roots within India. In such a situation, the police force will have to remain alert at all times.
Eye on security from Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab
The security situation of Jammu and Kashmir was also discussed in the meetings. The DGP made it clear that Pakistan has previously tried to spoil the atmosphere in Punjab by providing financial and arms support to gangsters and terrorist organizations. He warned the officers that these activities may increase further in the current situation, especially when the statement of Pakistan’s army chief is exposing their intentions.
Echo of ‘nuclear threat’ from Florida
General Asim Munir made this controversial statement in Tampa city of Florida state of America, where he was addressing the Pakistani expatriate community. According to reports, he said that if there is a war with India in the future and Pakistan feels threatened to its existence, then it will not shy away from using nuclear weapons.
Munir also warned that if India attempted to stop the flow of water towards Pakistan, Islamabad would destroy India’s infrastructure. “We are a nuclear nation. If we feel that we are going to be destroyed, we will take half the world along with us to destruction,” he was quoted as saying in media reports.
Punjab’s challenge in a tense atmosphere
India and Pakistan already have strained relations, and at such a time, this nuclear threat has come as a new challenge for the security agencies. Punjab, which is adjacent to the India-Pakistan border, has always been considered a sensitive state. Conspiracies to spoil the atmosphere through drug smuggling, arms supply, and terrorist activities have been caught earlier in many districts here.
DGP Gaurav Yadav believes that the Punjab Police will have to be more vigilant in the current circumstances. He clarified that the network between gangsters and separatist organizations can become a medium for Pakistan, through which it will try to spread instability in the state.
Security agencies are now keeping a sharper eye
After this entire incident, security agencies have increased surveillance in the border districts. The intelligence department has also become active, and intelligence is being shared for quick action. Punjab Police has intensified special patrolling, checking of checkpoint,s and monitoring of suspicious activities in the districts.
