The state government has recently made a big change in the rules related to ration cards. Now the total number of beneficiaries in Bihar has been limited to 8.71 crores. With this decision of the government, lakhs of new families have got a chance to become a part of the scheme. According to the information, after this limit, the names of about 26 lakh new people have been added to the ration card.
A new campaign started on a large scale
The Food and Consumer Protection Department has started a special campaign to make new ration cards across the state. Under this campaign, a target has been set to make a total of 11.37 lakh new ration cards. Of these, 9.53 lakh ration cards have been set for priority families, while 1.84 lakh Antyodaya ration cards will be given to the poorest of the poor families.
According to government data, about 8.40 lakh ration cards have been approved so far. This is about 71 percent of the total applications. However, about 3.44 lakh applications are still pending in the process, which have been instructed to be completed soon.
Enthusiasm seen in top districts
There is tremendous enthusiasm about this campaign in many districts of Bihar. According to the data, Saharsa and Purnia districts have registered 87 percent participation. At the same time, Jamui and Supaul have achieved 86 percent, and Araria has achieved 85 percent. These districts are said to be at the forefront of the campaign.
New system to prevent fraud
In the recent past, many cases of fraud regarding ration cards have come to light. Keeping this in mind, the Bihar government has now increased the strictness in the process. Under the new rules, the applicants will have to submit a group photo of the entire family. Along with this, it has also been made mandatory to provide a photo of the applicant’s signature. The government believes that this step will maintain transparency, and it will be easy to identify fake beneficiaries.
Strict instructions to officials
The Principal Secretary of the Food and Ration Supply Department has recently given clear instructions to all the officials in an important meeting that this target has to be achieved at all costs. He has also said that the pending applications should be settled as soon as possible, so that the needy families can get ration cards on time and get the benefits of government schemes.
