Dehradun weather update: Cloud burst like situation, heavy rain slowed down, alert issued

Dehradun weather update: Dehradun’s morning started with a different view today. The sky was surrounded by dark clouds since early morning, and thunder, lightning, and heavy rain engulfed the entire city. The sudden change in weather has badly affected the daily routine of the people. People going to school and the office got stuck in the rain, while markets and colonies were flooded in many places.

The weather department issued a warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already indicated that the weather in the state will remain bad till August 23. At present, a yellow alert is in place, but the department estimates that after this, the effect of rain may intensify. Heavy rain warning has been issued in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Nainital, and Pithoragarh districts. There is also a possibility of lightning and thunderstorms in these areas.

Waterlogging and jams in the city

The situation worsened due to waterlogging in many major areas of Dehradun. The roads started looking like ponds, and the traffic remained jammed for hours. The situation was even more serious on the Gangotri Highway. The road was completely blocked for about five hours due to debris. Due to this, the passengers had to face a lot of trouble.

Scene of devastation in villages

Two drains suddenly overflowed in Matli village of Dunda block of Uttarkashi. The fast-flowing water entered the houses directly. The frightened villagers could not sleep the whole night. The situation worsened so much that about 20 families had to take shelter in a nearby hotel. Not only this, apart from Matli, people’s houses were submerged due to the overflowing of drains in Joshiyada, Koti, and Banga Road. The fast-flowing water also collapsed the security walls of many houses.

Increased danger in the mountains

The situation remains more serious in the hilly districts. Due to continuous rain, the rivers and drains are overflowing. The water level of the Alaknanda River has reached dangerous levels. There is a danger of flash floods and landslides in sensitive districts like Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli. In the last few weeks, 23 flash floods and 16 landslides have been recorded in the state. These figures clearly show how big a natural crisis Uttarakhand is facing at this time.

Today’s weather in Dehradun

According to the Meteorological Center, Dehradun will remain partly cloudy throughout the day today. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain. The temperature will also fluctuate with the changing mood of the weather. The maximum temperature is expected to be 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum 24 degrees Celsius.

Big advice regarding travel

The Meteorological Department and the administration have given a strict warning to the travelers. Traveling in hilly areas can prove to be very risky at the moment. Roads have been broken at many places, while at other places the roads have been closed due to landslides. The danger of flash floods still remains. The administration has clearly said to avoid unnecessary travel and do not ignore the advice of local people.

Clouds still loom in the sky

There is no hope of the situation becoming normal in Dehradun and the surrounding districts. Clouds are constantly camping, and intermittent rain continues. People are worried that the situation may become more serious in the coming days. The administration is also on alert, and relief and rescue teams have been kept on alert mode.
