The Meteorological Department issued a big alert at 6 am today and clearly said that for the next three hours, there will be a threat of moderate to heavy rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Due to this, red and orange alerts have been issued at many places.

Schools and colleges closed, administration on alert

In view of heavy rains, orders have been given to keep government and private schools closed today in all 10 districts of the Jammu division. All educational institutions will also remain closed in the Shimla district. The administration has also declared a holiday in Pathankot, Fazilka, Bathinda, and Hoshiarpur of Punjab.

Continuous drizzle in Delhi-NCR

The national capital, Delhi, and its surrounding areas have been receiving intermittent rains for the last several days. Light drizzle has been continuing since Monday morning. At the same time, the havoc of floods is increasing in Punjab and Haryana. Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers are in spate, and the excess water released from Bhakra and Pong dams has deepened the concern in the villages.

River fury in Himachal and Jammu

The situation is also very serious in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Due to continuous release of water from the Pong dam, the lower villages of the Tanda area have been waterlogged. Fields, roads, and houses have been submerged in water. The situation is such that people from many areas have had to be shifted to safer places.

After heavy rains in the Chakki Khad catchment area of ​​​​Pathankot district of Punjab, the river broke the embankment and came out. On Sunday evening, the water of the Beas River entered several villages of Hoshiarpur—Motla, Haler Janardan, Saniyal, Kolian, and Mehtabpur. Standing crops in the fields were submerged, and people were forced to migrate.
