Uttarakhand: The mood of the sky has changed these days in Uttarakhand. Dark clouds have camped from mountains to plains, and intermittent rain continues. Heavy rain that started on Sunday night soaked the roads of the capital, Dehradun. The series of showers continued throughout the night, and on Monday, the clouds were also seen playing hide and seek in the sky.
The rain increased the difficulties in the mountains
As soon as people breathed a sigh of relief after the summer, rain started making its presence felt in the mountains. Heavy rain was recorded at many places in districts like Uttarkashi, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh. Incidents of landslides and road blockages are also being reported due to continuous rain. People are traveling cautiously in the hilly areas as the sudden spell of rain is making the roads dangerous.
Showers did not stop, even in the plains
The rain in Dehradun and the surrounding areas has not stopped since Sunday night. The rain stopped for a while on Monday morning, but the clouds continued to hover in the sky. By afternoon, sometimes bright sunshine came out, and sometimes heavy showers started suddenly. This was the reason that more than 50 mm of rain was recorded in many areas of the capital, Doon, within 24 hours.
The latest forecast of the Meteorological Department
The Meteorological Center Dehradun has issued a warning that heavy rains may occur in many parts of the state in the next 24 hours. The department said that very heavy rains may be seen at some places in Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy showers with thunder and lightning in other districts.
Effect of rain on Mussoorie and the surrounding areas
The weather in Mussoorie, a tourist destination adjacent to Dehradun, has remained very pleasant due to the rain. The fog and light showers of rain thrilled the tourists arriving here. However, the local people are also facing difficulties due to the continuous rain. The roads have become slippery, and there is also a threat of landslides.
Relief and increased worries from the rain
While the people struggling with heavy heat and humidity have got relief from the rain, the continuous heavy rain has also increased the concern. The water level of rivers and streams in the hilly areas is increasing rapidly. Waterlogging has also occurred in the low-lying areas. The Meteorological Department has advised people to be alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
Changing picture of the capital Doon
Since Sunday night, the streets, squares, and markets of Dehradun have been drenched in rain. Light to moderate showers with thunder continued throughout the night. When the rain stopped for a while on Monday morning, people heaved a sigh of relief, but by afternoon, the clouds again covered the sky, and the showers started. In the evening, it seemed as if the rains gained momentum, and most areas received heavy rainfall.
What does the weather say ahead?
According to meteorologists, the series of showers may continue in the state in the coming days as well. However, there is a possibility of getting some relief from the heavy rain from today. The department estimates that there will be a partly cloudy sky for the next two to three days, and there may be two to three rounds of heavy rain.
Necessary precautions for people
In this rainy season, the local administration and the Meteorological Department have appealed to the people to remain alert. Avoid unnecessary travel on hilly roads and avoid going to the banks of rivers and streams. Due to sudden heavy rains in the plains, including Dehradun, people have been advised to stay in safe places.
