CG Weather Update Today: Monsoon suddenly took a turn in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. From the capital Raipur to the tribal region Bastar, heavy rains have been continuing since morning. While heavy rains have given relief to people from heat and humidity, continuous rain has also raised the possibility of floods. Waterlogging in many districts is affecting the daily life of the people, and the administration is on alert mode.
Clouds rained throughout the day in Raipur
The capital, Raipur, remained overcast since Sunday morning. The city streets were flooded amid light and heavy showers. The weather became pleasant due to the drop in temperature, and people enjoyed the cool breeze. However, the crowd in the markets and streets was less as most people preferred to stay at home.
Deteriorating situation in Bastar and Sukma
While rain brought relief to people in the capital, Bastar and Sukma districts are troubled by the continuous torrential rain. Heavy rains have been occurring in these areas for the last few days, due to which small rivers and streams are overflowing. Water has started filling in many low-lying areas, and the situation is gradually becoming like a flood. Administration teams are monitoring the situation in every village.
The Meteorological Department issued a statewide alert
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert in the entire Chhattisgarh on Sunday, 31 August. The warning includes Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Bastar, Kanker, Kondagaon, Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, and Narayanpur districts. The Meteorological Department says that there will be intermittent heavy rains throughout the day, and in some places it can also take a very dangerous form.
Heavy rain in Durg, farmers worried
Heavy rain was recorded in Durg district on Saturday, and there is a possibility of more rain here on Sunday as well. For farmers, this rain is a boon for crops, but excessive rain can also damage the paddy crop. There is also a danger of roads and drains getting washed away in rural areas.
Chance of lightning and thunderstorm
The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning along with rain in many districts. Thunderstorm clouds can form with strong winds in Raipur, Korba, and Bastar. Experts have advised people not to take shelter in open fields or under trees during bad weather. People traveling have been instructed to stay at a safe place in case the weather suddenly deteriorates.
Administration appeals to people
The disaster management unit of the state has alerted citizens to avoid going out of the house during heavy rains. In rural areas where low-lying settlements may be affected by waterlogging, special vigilance has been requested. To avoid lightning, it has been advised to stay away from open places and immediately inform the administration if needed.
Double effect of relief and trouble
Monsoon is currently showing two types of effects in Chhattisgarh. People in the capital and surrounding areas are enjoying the coolness of rain and beautiful weather, while in the southern districts, life is getting disrupted due to continuous rain. If the rain continues like this, then the situation in Bastar and Sukma may worsen.
Meteorologists are now eyeing the low-pressure area, which is moving from the Bay of Bengal towards Chhattisgarh. The next 24 hours are very important for the state, because this will decide whether this rain stops as a relief or creates trouble in the form of a flood.
