Uttar Pradesh Weather Update: September is starting with heavy rains and thunder in Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday, heavy rains were recorded in many districts, including the capital Lucknow, which gave relief to the people struggling with humidity and heat. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains are likely in most parts of the state on September 1 as well.
Threat of torrential rains in western UP
Meteorologists predict that the rain will continue in almost all the districts of western Uttar Pradesh. Heavy to very heavy rains with thunderstorms have been predicted at many places. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert here. Along with rain in Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Baghpat, Bijnor, and adjoining areas, a warning has also been issued of a flood-like situation in some places.
Monsoon will also remain active in eastern UP
Rain will continue in the districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh as well. Heavy rain alert has been issued in districts like Lakhimpur Kheri, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and Pratapgarh. On the other hand, heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected in Jaunpur, Varanasi, Chandauli, and adjoining districts. The Meteorological Department says that vigilance is necessary in view of the possibility of lightning and waterlogging in these areas.
Yellow alert in the capital, Lucknow
Light to moderate rains are expected in Lucknow on Monday, along with heavy rains in some parts. In August, 307.8 mm of rain was recorded here, which is 52% more than the monthly average. So far, 542.7 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the capital during Monsoon-2025, which is about 5% more than normal. This is the reason why the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Lucknow and its adjoining districts.
Record-breaking rainfall in August
Last month, in August, four low-pressure areas and five active western disturbances were formed, out of which three also interacted mutually. Due to these reasons, the entire state received more than normal rainfall. According to the data, the long-term average of August is 235.5 mm, while this time, 241.2 mm of rainfall was recorded, which is 2% more. 636.5 mm rainfall in Bijnor district and 417.9 mm rainfall in Lakhimpur Kheri broke records.
Monsoon-2025 situation so far
From June 1 to August 31, 579.2 mm of rainfall was recorded in Uttar Pradesh, while the normal average is 593.1 mm. That is, monsoon in the entire state is 2% less than normal so far. However, 14% more rain has been recorded in western UP and 12% less in eastern UP. Bijnor district has recorded 1097.4 mm rainfall so far, which is 48% more than normal and the highest in the entire state.
How will the weather be in September?
According to the climate model of the Monsoon Mission, western disturbances and monsoon troughs will remain active in September. Scientists say that the condition of El Niño and the Indian Ocean Dipole can temporarily go into a negative phase in the latter half of the monsoon. Due to its effect, the maximum temperature in western UP will be below normal, and in eastern UP it will be around normal. At the same time, the minimum temperature is likely to be above normal.

The continuous rain has brought a smile of relief to the faces of the farmers. This rain is proving to be very beneficial for paddy and pulse crops. At the same time, the general public, troubled by the scorching heat and humidity, has also got relief from the cool winds and raindrops.
Rain will continue for the next two days
The Meteorological Department has clarified that till September 2, light to moderate and heavy rains will continue in the entire state. While an orange alert is issued in western and central districts, a yellow alert has been issued in Lucknow and the surrounding areas.
