Weather Update: The weather has changed in many parts of Maharashtra these days. Pune, Raigad, Satara, and Aurangabad are expected to receive heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms in the next few hours. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for these areas, advising common citizens to be cautious. At the same time, a yellow alert has been imposed in Mumbai, Thane, and adjoining suburbs due to the warning of moderate to heavy rains. City dwellers need to be prepared for problems like waterlogging and traffic obstruction.
According to IMD Mumbai, areas like Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ahmednagar, Beed, and Latur are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms with strong winds. Rain has already affected the routine of people in many parts. Due to torrential rains overnight in Pune, many areas were waterlogged, due to which intensified the demand for the temporary closure of schools and colleges on social media. City residents appealed to the government on X (formerly Twitter) to find a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem.
According to data from the IMD Shivajinagar Observatory, Pune recorded 13.8 mm of rain late at night, Talegaon 15 mm, Hadapsar 13.5 mm, and Magarpatta 10 mm. Meteorologists say that this series of rains may intensify instead of stopping for the next few days. Very heavy rains have been predicted in many parts of Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, especially on September 14 and 15.
On Sunday, the IMD issued a forecast saying that light to moderate rain and thundershowers may occur in Konkan, Goa, and the Marathwada region on September 16 as well. Yellow alerts have been issued for light rain in cities like Nashik, Palghar, Jalna, and Nagpur. Meteorologists have warned that waterlogging in low-lying areas, crop damage in fields, and traffic disruptions are likely in the coming days.
Meanwhile, sarcastic comments about the rains in Mumbai are also emerging on social media. Many netizens say that “a flat worth Rs 10 crore should have a boat parking facility”, while real experts have estimated its cost to be around Rs 50 lakh. This shows that the rains have not only affected the city’s system but have also evoked light-hearted humour among citizens.
The changing weather in Maharashtra has put everyone on alert. People living especially in Pune, Mumbai, and surrounding areas should be prepared for waterlogging, power cuts, traffic jams, and other problems due to the rains. The administration is continuously engaged in relief work, and citizens are being advised to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel. The intensity of rain may increase further in the coming days, so it is important to keep an eye on the weather updates.
