Rita says that she played a major role in Sanu’s rise to stardom, but after achieving success, he completely changed. She clearly stated, “He may be a great singer, but the less we talk about him as a person, the better.”
“I made him Kumar Sanu”
Rita explained that when she and Sanu came to Mumbai, they had no money, no car, or any other amenities. Recalling that period, she said that she was the one who forced Sanu to work hard in the singing world. She claims, “If I hadn’t motivated him, he probably wouldn’t have become such a big singer.”
She said that Sanu had only one percent talent, and the remaining 99 percent was her hard work and encouragement. At that time, they slept on the floor without a fan, and even had to sleep on the floor with water in their beds to avoid the heat.
The change began after ‘Aashiqui’
Rita says that Sanu’s behavior completely changed after the success of the film ‘Aashiqui’. As soon as he gained fame and name, he became rude and started distancing himself from his family. Rita said that he also distanced himself from his children. He even paid no attention to their eldest son, Zico, during his wedding.
Rita said, “I repeatedly requested him to comment on the rumors circulating in the public and his love life, but he remained silent. Furthermore, he blocked me and my son, Jaan. This was a huge insult to me.”
Not allowed to leave the house
Rita also shared many painful details about her personal life. She explained that she was never allowed to leave the house. She wasn’t even allowed to go to the beauty parlor for basic grooming.
She said, “I never imagined we would have to separate. Despite being a mother of two, I was confined within the house. My life had become like a locked room.”
Torture at In-Laws’ House and Court Case
Rita also revealed that her in-laws constantly tortured her. She said that her father passed away while she was pregnant with her son, Jaan. That’s when the torture reached its peak.
She says that Kumar Sanu filed a court case against her, accusing her of cruelty during her pregnancy. She was very young at the time, and this incident shook her world.
Locked Kitchen and Suffering from Hunger
Rita also recalled her most painful moments. She said, “My in-laws once locked the kitchen. I didn’t even have food at that time. I sent the watchman to get just one kilogram of rice, and I cooked and ate with that. Even the children were stopped from getting milk.”
Rita also said that she was never able to ask Sanu face-to-face the real reason for the divorce. She wishes she could know the truth before she dies.
