NESTS 2025 Recruitment: UP Lecturers Eligible for 225 Eklavya School Principal Posts

NESTS 2025 Recruitment: There’s great news for lecturers in government and aided non-government secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh. They can now apply to become principals of Eklavya Model Residential Schools. The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) has announced recruitment for a total of 7,267 teaching and non-teaching positions in these residential schools.

The most significant feature of this recruitment is that not only PGTs but also lecturers will be eligible for the 225 principal positions. This change is a departure from last year’s policy, when only PGT teachers were eligible for this recruitment in 2023. At that time, many lecturers passed the written exam and appeared for interviews in 2024, but were rejected, citing the position as reserved only for PGTs.

Despite court petitions, relief failed

Some lecturers filed court petitions against this discrimination, but they received no relief because the recruitment advertisement clearly recognized only PGTs. Now, in keeping with the long-standing demand of lecturers, lecturers have been recognized alongside PGTs in this recruitment.

Anglo Bengali Inter College spokesperson Ashish Srivastava explained that PGT teachers in Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas teach grades 11 and 12. Similarly, lecturers in aided colleges also teach grades 11 and 12. Despite the different designations, their scope and responsibilities are similar to those of PGTs.

Benefits will also be available in other states, but obstacles remain for some teachers

This change in Uttar Pradesh will also benefit lecturers working on par with PGTs in states like Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. This decision will prove to be a ray of hope for teachers in those states who have been demanding equal opportunities for years.

However, in some states, teachers may still be precluded from applying due to their PGT designation. For example, in West Bengal, the designation for PGT teachers is “Assistant Teacher Post Graduate.” Such teachers will not be eligible to apply in this recruitment process.

This change will open up new employment opportunities for lecturers and give them the opportunity to become principals based on their experience and qualifications. This move is not only important for teachers’ careers but will also enhance the quality of education in Eklavya Model Residential Schools.

This new NESTS recruitment policy clearly indicates that teachers with similar qualifications and experience will no longer face discrimination based on their designation. This change is being seen as a positive message in the education sector and fulfills a long-standing demand of lecturers.
