Heavy rain alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for several districts in Maharashtra. According to the latest forecast, Mumbai is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from Saturday, September 27, to Monday, September 29. Similar conditions are expected in surrounding districts like Palghar, Thane, and Raigad.
The IMD has stated that an orange alert is in effect for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, and Raigad. This means that these areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. However, the situation is more serious in some other districts of Maharashtra. A red alert has been issued for areas like Jalna, Beed, and Solapur, where moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and surface winds is expected.
The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for Pune, Ahmednagar, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Nanded. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is expected in most parts of the state, for which a yellow or orange alert has been issued.

The IMD stated that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely today in many parts of Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Mahe, Konkan and Goa, Maharashtra, North Interior Karnataka, Odisha, and Telangana. Heavy rain is also forecast at isolated places in Andhra Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, West Bengal, and Sikkim.
Lightning and gusty winds with speeds of up to 40-50 kmph are expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, the Gangetic plains (West Bengal), and Telangana. Along with this, Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Odisha, Rayalaseema and parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may also experience rain and thundershowers, where wind speeds can reach 30-40 kmph.
The Meteorological Department has warned of winds of 45-55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, in the west-central areas adjoining the Arabian Sea and near the Somalia coast.
