IMD Weather Alert: Heavy Rain in South India, Clear Skies in Delhi from October 9

IMD Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued various weather warnings for different parts of the country in its latest forecast released on Thursday, October 9. While the monsoon continues to withdraw from northwest and central India, southern states are vulnerable to heavy rainfall due to cyclonic activity.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Southern States

According to the IMD, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in southern states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Andhra Pradesh, and coastal Karnataka until October 12. This is due to a prominent low-pressure system formed by the remnants of Cyclone Shakti, which persists over the west-central Arabian Sea. However, it is expected to weaken into a moderate low-pressure area over the next 12 hours.

Kerala: A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in the Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kannur districts of the state. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by isolated heavy falls and gusty winds of up to 30-40 kmph, is forecast between October 9 and 12.

Tamil Nadu: Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur districts, especially in hilly areas.

Monsoon Withdrawal Continues

The southwest monsoon is now steadily withdrawing from northwest and central India. The IMD has stated that conditions are favorable for the monsoon to further withdraw from the remaining parts of Gujarat, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and some areas of Maharashtra over the next 2-3 days.

North India: Clear Weather in Delhi-NCR

With the withdrawal of the monsoon, the weather in North India is improving. The national capital, Delhi, is expected to experience mainly clear skies after October 9. Maximum temperatures here are expected to hover between 30-32°C and minimum temperatures between 18-20°C, slightly above normal.

Telangana and Northeast India Situation

Telangana: Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and lightning are expected in 12 districts of the state, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Mahbubnagar, on Thursday. However, Hyderabad will experience partly cloudy skies.

Northeast India: Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until Friday. Heavy rain is also possible at isolated places. Heavy rain is also expected in some areas of Arunachal Pradesh on October 10.
