Police misbehave: A shocking case of police brutality has emerged from Katihar district, Bihar. A video of police officers mistreating a brother and sister who were dining at a restaurant in the Barsoi police station area has gone viral on social media. The administration has swung into action after the video surfaced, while local residents are expressing their displeasure at the police’s actions.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 24th, when the victim, Yash Agarwal, went to a restaurant in Barsoi with his sister for dinner. At that time, Barsoi Station House Officer Ramchandra Mandal arrived with his team. According to Yash, the police officers began questioning him without any valid reason and behaved rudely. When Yash stated that the girl sitting with him was his sister, the Station House Officer became enraged and said, “Why are you speaking so loudly? Your tone is inappropriate.” This sparked an argument between the two, a video of which has now gone viral on the internet.
The viral footage clearly shows Yash Agarwal trying to speak calmly inside the restaurant, but the Station House Officer (SHO) repeatedly interrupts him, escalating the situation. Following this incident, people on social media have strongly criticized the police’s behavior.
Following the incident, Katihar DSP Ajay Kumar issued a press release stating that a show-cause notice has been issued to the Barsoi Station House Officer (SHO) regarding the incident. An explanation has been sought, and if the response is not satisfactory, a report will be sent to senior officials for departmental action.
The DSP also stated that the Station House Officer (SHO) received information about the presence of some anti-social elements in the restaurant, and a police team was sent to investigate. However, an unnecessary argument during the investigation escalated into a controversy.
The entire matter is currently under investigation, while the viral video has raised questions about the police department’s image. Locals are demanding strict action against such officers to prevent such behavior from recurring in the future.
