Winter Grips India: Winter has officially arrived in India. Temperatures are dropping rapidly in many states in North India, while a heavy rain alert has been issued for parts of South India. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will experience a significant change in the weather in many parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
The effects of winter are now clearly visible in North India. Snowfall has begun in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. A white blanket of snow has covered the mountains, further intensifying the cold in the plains. Light to moderate snowfall is also expected in the higher reaches of Himachal and Uttarakhand today.
Temperatures drop in Delhi-NCR, pollution worsens problems
The national capital, Delhi, and the surrounding areas have been experiencing a chill for the past two days. The mercury is dropping rapidly during the morning and night hours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), strong winds will blow in Delhi-NCR for the next two days, further increasing the chill. However, there is no possibility of rain during this period.
Due to pollution, people are facing breathing difficulties. The air quality index (AQI) has reached the poor category. Weather experts say that the pollution has increased due to a change in wind direction and a drop in temperature.
Temperatures to fall in eastern and central India
Cold weather has also started increasing in many parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. Minimum temperatures in these areas have dropped by 2 to 4 degrees in the last 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, further decreases in minimum temperatures are expected in many parts of eastern and central India during the next 24 hours.
Uttar Pradesh is now experiencing mild cold in the morning and at night. The Meteorological Department stated that the weather will remain normal in the state, but fog may develop in the morning and evening. However, dense fog is not currently expected.
Rain alert in South India
While cold is increasing in North India, rain continues in South India. Rain accompanied by strong winds is expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for these states.
Heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of Kerala over the next 24 hours, while light to moderate rain is forecast in Tamil Nadu, South Karnataka, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In addition, light rain is also possible in Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
While cold winds and falling temperatures are increasing the chill in North India, monsoon rains are keeping the weather moist in South India. Snowfall in the hilly areas and falling temperatures in the plains indicate that winter has now fully established itself across the country.
