Clouds to Cover Delhi, UP and Several States; Thunderstorms and Rain Likely, Yellow Alert Issued for 3 Days

Storm Alert: Clouds, Thunderstorms and Rain to Hit Delhi, UP and North India as IMD Issues Yellow Warning
Heat Takes a Backseat as Storm Clouds Loom Over North India
New Delhi is in for a weather U-turn as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several northern and central states. From May 1 a cloud cover, thunder and rain is expected to hit Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Punjab. As the sky darkens and winds pick up the scorching summer heat will take a break.
Delhi and UP to Get Thunder and Showers
The capital will see maximum temperatures of 36 to 37 degrees Celsius for the next few days and minimums of 25 to 26 degrees. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and patchy rain till May 6. In Uttar Pradesh residents can expect a drop in temperature as five days of light to moderate rain, dust storms and lightning activity is predicted. This early May cool spell is a much needed respite after weeks of blistering heat.
Western Disturbance Brings Weather Change in Rajasthan
A fresh western disturbance is behind this sudden change. In Rajasthan, its effects are already visible. Cities like Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner will see gusty winds of up to 50 km/h with thundershowers and slight drop in temperature. The atmosphere is unstable and residents have been advised to be cautious especially during peak storm hours.
Bihar and MP Join the Wet Weather Bandwagon
The heat-hit regions of Bihar are also expected to get wet. The IMD has forecast rain and lightning in 13 districts including Purnia and Araria. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are also under alert with intermittent rainfall and strong gusts through the week.
A Brief Break -Not a Full Retreat from Summer
While this system promises temporary relief meteorologists say summer isn’t done yet. Once this western disturbance passes, mercury levels may rise again. For now the mix of showers and clouds is a welcome breather.
