Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV Set to Electrify Indian Roads with Over 500 km Range

Toyota is all set to launch its first fully electric SUV Urban Cruiser BEV in India. This car can hit the Indian market by the end of this year. Its first glimpse in India was seen at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. With this, its global debut has been done in Brussels.

This SUV is based on Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming e-Vitara, which can reach the market during the festive season. Urban Cruiser BEV will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, and it will also be exported from here.

The interior of the vehicle has been designed in such a way that the forward view is very clear and clear. Its instrument panel is spread in the horizontal direction and is placed in a low-position, giving the driver better control and clarity on the road. The SUV has a high seating position, which increases confidence while driving.

The conventional floor cross members have been removed from the platform of Urban Cruiser EV. This provides space for a larger battery and the cabin also remains open. Its interior has been kept modern and spacious to give a comfortable experience to the passengers.

Battery Options and Performance

Two battery options will be available in this electric SUV. The first option is a 49 kWh battery, which gives 144 horsepower of power. This version will come only with a front-wheel drive system. The second option is a 61 kWh battery, which will get two different drivetrains.

The front-wheel drive variant will get 174 horsepower, while the all-wheel drive variant will get power up to 184 horsepower. It has an additional 48 kW motor for the rear wheels, which improves traction and performance.

Range and Charging Features

Toyota says that this SUV can cover a distance of more than 500 kilometers once fully charged. This range can prove to be very useful for those traveling long distances. Apart from this, DC fast charging support will also be provided in it, which will make more charging possible in less time.

Size and interior space

The total length of this electric SUV is 4,285 mm and its wheelbase is 2,700 mm. This means that the occupants inside the car will get plenty of legroom and space. It promises to give more space than Maruti’s e-Vitara.

Toyota’s electric vehicle plan

Toyota is expanding its electric vehicle portfolio all over the world, especially keeping in mind big markets like China. Urban Cruiser BEV will be an important part of this plan. The company will launch this SUV in many countries along with its bZ series.
