Gurudwara, Mosque, and Geeta Bhawan Damaged in Shelling: Operation Sindoor Launched to Target Terror Camps Across Border
In a brutal act of cross-border aggression, shelling perpetrated by the Pakistan Army in the district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir led to the unfortunate loss of 12 innocent civilian lives, including five people from the Sikh community.
Narinder Singh, President of the District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, confirmed the casualties and also informed about significant damage to important places of worship including Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara, Geeta Bhawan, a mosque and also to the Swami Vivekananda Retreat.
Shell strikes religious sites, sends civilians into panic
In a self-recorded video, Narinder Singh outlined the terrible events, saying a shell hit a corner of the Central Gurudwara, damaging glass and injuring a door. Another shell landed on a nearby mosque, sadly killing a teacher; yet another struck Geeta Bhawan. Singh stated categorically that the Gurudwara did not sustain significant harm, notwithstanding speculation. He stressed the growing anxiety among locals as well; many were abandoning their houses.
Sikh leaders criticize the attack and call for justice
President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Sukhbir Singh Badal, denounced the assault as cruel and very insulting. Three Sikhs — Bhai Amrik Singh Ji (a raagi), Bhai Amarjeet Singh, and Bhai Ranjit Singh — were confirmed dead in the attack. Sukhbir Singh Badal urged the Indian government to honor them as martyrs and provide compensation to their grieving families.
India Reacts with Precision: Operation Sindoor Started
In Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces struck nine terrorist camps over the border in a quick response. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the army for executing the strikes with precision, vigilance, and sensitivity to avoid civilian harm. These strikes were a reaction to the horrific Pahalgam terror assault, resulting in the death of 26 innocent people.
Officials Stress Importance of Stability and Security
Confirming that the goal was to upset Kashmir’s peace, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted an emergency meeting and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the Pahalgam victims were violently murdered in front of their families. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi stated that all nine terrorist targets were successfully destroyed without causing any civilian casualties or damage.
India has made it quite clear: civilian assaults won’t go unanswered. Operation Sindoor warns against future violence even as it provides justice for victims.
