India Activates Missile Defence After Explosions, Sirens and UAV Intrusions Across Border States

Widespread blackouts in Northern India, as permafrosted night hit the states of Jammu, Punjab and Rajasthan after Pakistani drones flew over Indian airspace. As multiple intrusions from the air had been reported, an alert was raised and a strong military response was taken by the air defence forces as per Indian protocols for that.

Sirens Wail, Drones Spotted Over Akhnoor

First signs of trouble were from Akhnoor Jammu, where people woke up to strange red glowing objects hovering silently over in Jammu night sky. At first, sighted men believed they saw balloons — a moment later, the objects would be revealed as drones fired over the border. Sirens blared for several minutes screaming locals to duck and cover. It was followed almost immediately by a darkening of the area that resulted in a full scale blackout response in the form of blasting gas.

Explosions Shake Pathankot and Poonch

Punjab’s Pathankot and Kashmir’s Poonch had earlier also badly hit areas Loud explosions were heard, homes shook and rumours started flying about an airstrike. In Poonch, warning sirens went off several minutes at nearly three on the hills before a sudden cut to power across the region. India´s military radars picked up on what appeared UAVs with their intended targets being sensitive locations such as the Jammu Civil Airport, RS Pura, Arnia and possibly Samba.

S-400 Missile System Neutralizes Multiple Drones

India took instant action. Many drones were shot down mid-air by the S-400 air defence system, preventing them from causing any harm. There have been no civilian casualties or damage to infrastructure till now. Security forces said Pakistani forces had fired shells from bunkers at Indian posts and villages including Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar in Kupwara also as a part of coordinated provocation by both sides.

Blackouts Extend to Amritsar, Rajasthan Border Zones

The police have carried out black outs to keep the threat of low vis [to hostile drones] and for increased effectiveness of defence in areas most vulnerable to low hanging threats that remain,low vis areas such as Amritsar rajasthan and some other Some parts. Night operations were carried out by the military as the streets, homes and business all went still behind closed blinds.
