The Indian Premier League (IPL)2025 is at a critical moment amid geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. The continued threat has put the continuation of the IPL in doubt. Military escalation and rescuing security alerts have already forced the suspension of one match and have asked to relocate other matches. This whole situation has brought the IPL’s continuation into doubt for the remaining season of IPL.

Match Suspended Amid Air Strike Warning

On Thursday, the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala was halted in the middle after an Air Strike warning in nearby areas of Jammu and Pathankot.

At the time of suspension, Punjab Kings were on 122 for 1 in just 10.1 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh unbeaten on 50 off just 28 balls. The stadium was approximately 80% full, and it was evacuated safely without any panic with the help of local police.

Ongoing Military Conflict

The heightened alert follows precision missile strikes conducted by the Indian Armed Forces on May 8 targeting nine terrorist hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It includes camps linked with Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke. The strike was carried out as a retaliation for a terrorist attack held in Pahalgam on 22 April, which took 26 innocent lives.

In response to the attacks, the blackout orders were passed in several northern regions, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, and Chandigarh. All the airports have been temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure in these areas ( Dharamshala, Kangra, and Chandigarh)

Player Movements and Safety Measures

After the match was suspended in the middle, all the players of both teams were transported by road to Pathankot, which is around 85 km from Dharamshala. From where they boarded a special train to Delhi, which was booked by BCCI to ensure the safety of the players, is kept on a top priority.

As per the official sources from BCCI, it is confirmed that foreign players are a little tense about the situation that is going on in INDIA. Some of them are already seeking departures early next week or by the end of this week.

Official Response from BCCI

Arun Dhumal, Chairman of IPL, While talking to the media, stated that :

“We are currently reviewing the situation. It is a dynamic environment. No final instructions have been received from the government regarding the suspension of the tournament. Matches will proceed as scheduled for now, but all decisions will be taken with the safety and best interests of stakeholders in mind.”

As per the official records, the next match, which was between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday, will be held as per the original plan. But if there are any new advancements, things may change accordingly.

Match Relocation and Future Plan

The IPL schedule has already seen its first adjustment on May 8. The match, which was between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, is now been relocated from Dharamshala to Ahmedabad, considering all the challenges and airport closures.

A high-level BCCI official meeting is currently going on to disclose the further action plan according to the situation.
