Major Deeksha C. Mudadevannavar has changed the course of history for the Indian Armed Forces by becoming the first female officer to receive the coveted Balidaan Badge, which is only given to the country’s elite Special Forces. She is now known throughout the world as a trailblazer in a traditionally male-dominated field thanks to this historic accomplishment.

Major Deeksha, a native of Davangere, Karnataka, began his career in the National Cadet Corps (NCC). In October 2019, she enlisted in the Indian Army through the Short Service Commission (SSC), launching her military career. She then finished her training as a medical officer at the Army Medical Corps Centre in Lucknow, laying the groundwork for a career that would break records.

    The Grueling Path to Glory

Deeksha had a difficult journey to earn the Balidaan Badge, in contrast to many others. She was first assigned to the 303 Field Hospital in Leh, where she twice tried and failed the Parachute Regiment’s physical screening. However, she was not defined by her setbacks. She persisted under the leadership of Col. Shivesh Singh, her commanding officer. She overcame a previous injury and underwent a rigorous selection process before being admitted into the elite unit in December 2022.

The Balidaan Badge must be earned; it is not granted. The badge, which is reserved for members of the Indian Army’s Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), represents unrivaled strength and dedication. Major Deeksha proudly wore the badge, which has become a symbol of bravery for millions of people, after more than six months of serving as a Regimental Medical Officer in active Special Forces operations.

She has demonstrated the contemporary side of India’s military by striking a balance between life-saving abilities and the mental toughness needed for special operations.
