New Delhi, May 11: Just as India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC both the neighbour shunned hope for peace just after few hours. The delicate tête-à-tète was punctured by Pakistan, it was claimed after opening fire across the Line of 69 familiarity in Akhnoor sector as well as deploying drones on border.
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri branded the violation an ‘extremely condemnable’ incident as per Indian troops are ordered to respond in full strength to any such hostile provocation. The Indian Army responded with a large scale counter-offensive immediately.

In an overnight address, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sought to de-escalate the situation by once again stating that Islamabad stands for ceasefire. He further commended the role of the international community, especially U.S., China & Saudi for working toward peace talks and his general belief on de-escalation of other deep rooted disputes like water sharing, Kashmir etc. Despite coming across as conciliatory, the ceasefire violation did draw some international radar resonances.
Even as Sharif’s tone was largely conciliatory; international attention has been fixed on one breach of ceasefire. Shelling, and drone movements have lessened but Indian soldiers are on edge lining the LAC reminding that its far from over.
