Citroen India Sales Plummet to Record Low – Can the French Automaker Survive the Crisis?

Citroen India: Sales Crash to Record Low February 2025, Worst in Six Years

French Automaker Facing Hardships in India

Severe sales downturn clouds Citroën India at present as the company has recorded the lowest figures in six months in February 2025 having sold just 268 units in the month. The numbers come down to harsh contrast compared to the sales figures the company experienced in its previous months. Despite bringing five different models, the French company failed to capture the Indian market.

Huge Falls in Citroen’s Lineup

From a car considered promising, Citroën C3 has suddenly plunged down sharply with sales registering only 110 units in February. Basalt Coupe which previously seemed to have good potential could just manage 37 units which raises some serious questions about its marketability.

The Aircross SUV, which otherwise had steady numbers in previous months, slipped to just 43 units, further emphasizing Citroën’s grappling with any momentum. The eC3 electric hatchback, however, did a bit better, managing to sell 77 units during the month, although still short of impressive figures.

Not surprisingly, the biggest disappointment was the C5 Aircross, which managed to sell just a single unit during the entire month. This particular model has remained consistent in its poor performance, despite being marketed with a premium feature and positioning.

Steady Decline Through Out Last Six-Month Span

The last half a year spent by Citroën reflected erratic patterns of sales. It had a sale of 711 units in September 2024, which came down to 717 units in October. November however sealed its fate by reporting sales of just 509 units and December at 566 units.

That bleak downturn continued into the brand-new year in which January 2025 saw just 470 units registered and February ended with an abysmal 268 units sold-the lowest number yet recorded. Such figures speak of the mounting challenges the carmaker is facing in India.

What Is Causing the Woes for Citroen?

The steep decline in sales hints at the fact that quite a few things are wrong. Apart from the expense, a limited dealership presence and a cachet of low recogintion in India seem to have been among the major stumbling blocks. Besides, the Indian customer is also left with other many competing options for that price range.

Will Citroen Come Back?

Citroen needs to come up with a brand new strategy to regain previously lost ground. Here, a new-age cost-effective pricing strategy, coupled with aggressive marketing and financing options, is meant to cover these new buyers. They can also boost confidence by setting up good after-sales service along with their extensive dealership network.

As is, this model has its own destiny in the Indian auto market and will either survive or die as far as its progression depends on adaptation and innovation. With a strategy projecting into the future of most consumers, the opportunity is still there for the brand to reverse things.

The next couple of months will prove crucial in determining whether Citroën will rebound into a future of growth or continue its slide into oblivion.
