CNG vs Electric Cars : Which One Truly Fits Your Life and Budget?

CNG vs Electric Cars : Nowadays, in the world of vehicles, a big question is going around in everyone’s mind – should we buy a CNG car or Electric? Amidst the rising prices of petrol and diesel, everyone now wants an option that is light on the pocket and also does not harm the environment. But when there are two cheap and clean options in the market, CNG and Electric, then it becomes a bit difficult to decide. In this blog, we will do a human and easy comparison of both the options so that you can decide for yourself which one is better for you.

1. Price and cost of purchase

CNG cars are still much cheaper than electric cars. A mid-range CNG car is available to you for Rs 6-9 lakh, while the price of a good electric car starts above Rs 10 lakh. If the starting budget is low, then CNG is more economical.

2. Running cost and fuel cost

The cost of running a CNG car comes around  2.5-3/km, while electric cars run for  1-1.5/km. That is, electric cars are cheaper in the long term. Yes, the cost of electricity and charging time also have to be kept in mind.

3. Charging vs Refilling Facility

Getting CNG filled is still easier than electric charging. There is a line for CNG at petrol pumps, but charging stations are not everywhere. Finding a charging point for an electric car can be a challenge, especially in small towns.

4. Range and Distance Assurance

CNG cars run up to 250-300 km on a full tank. The range of an electric car depends on the model, but on an average it is 250-400 km. The difference is that it takes 5 minutes to fill CNG, while it can take up to 4-6 hours to fully charge an EV (1 hour even if it is fast charging).

5. Impact on the environment

Electric cars are one step ahead here. They neither emit smoke nor make engine noise. They cause the least damage to the environment. CNG is also better than petrol and diesel, but is slightly behind EV.

6. Maintenance

Electric cars do not have traditional parts like engine, gear box, due to which maintenance is very low. Regular service and maintenance of CNG kit is necessary in CNG cars. In this case also EV is slightly ahead.

7. Which is better for long distance travel?

CNG is more reliable on long drives and highways as you can easily refill by stopping anywhere. Availability of charging stations is still a concern with EV.

Finalise – What to choose?

If you are on a low budget, live in the city and travel daily, then a CNG car can be a wise decision.

But if you think about the future, want cheap running cost and can do some planning for charging, then an electric car can upgrade your lifestyle.
