Once again, India shows a concerning spike in COVID-19 cases. The number of active cases increased from 1,010 on May 26 to 2,710 on May 30 in just four days. The nationwide alarm is ringing and new deaths are being reported daily, with this 5-fold increment. An additional 7 people died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
Blame It on the Variants: LF.7 and NB1.8 in Focus
New Omicron sub-variants LF.7 and NB1.8 have experts on a tenter hook as the current uptick in cases carriers. Though this version is assumed to be less severe, they are incredibly transmissible and can break immune forcing those with co-morbidities even weaker. The new strains might not be as deadly, but there is a shadow threat from them: Intensifying other existing health problems.
Deaths Reported in Multiple States: Delhi Logs First in New Wave
The virus has taken lives in many states. Two deaths were in Maharashtra one each from Delhi, Gujarat Karnataka Punjab, and Tamilnadu. This case of death in Delhi this new wave is the first ever. The unfortunate person had pre-existing health conditions which left them more susceptible to the complications of this infection.

Active CasesPer Status Kerala has the highest number of 1,147 active cases, trailed by Maharashtra (424), Delhi (294) Gujarat (223) Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu 148 each and West Bengal reported 116 cases. Sikkim is the only state so far where this wave has not claimed any victim, all others report instances.
