IMD issues yellow alert.-Delhi Rains Break the Heat So Monsoon Is Around the Corner
Delhi gets much needed rain and IMD issues yellow alert. Monsoon may arrive by June 24. Know what to expect and how to stay safe.
Unexpected Showers Cool Down the Capital
Saturday evening brought a sudden change in Delhi’s weather. Just when the city was dealing with dry and scorching heat clouds gathered and rain poured down in areas like RK Puram, Dhaula Kuan, and Delhi Cantt. For many people this felt like a long awaited relief. The India Meteorological Department IMD issued a yellow alert and warned of more rain in the form of thunderstorms and gusty winds in the next few days.
Temperature Drops and The City Breathes Easy
The sudden rainfall helped bring down the intense heat. Now daytime temperatures stay between 33°C and 36°C and nights feel cooler around 28°C. The cloud cover helped reduce humidity in the city so the weekend felt much more pleasant.
Yellow Alert Is Active and Rain Wind Or Storms May Follow
The yellow alert from IMD is still valid till Monday and more rain or thunderstorms are expected in Delhi and NCR. Mornings may see heavier showers so people are advised to stay informed and take care while going out or commuting.
Monsoon May Arrive In Delhi Around June 24
This shift in weather is more than just relief from heat so experts believe it signals the monsoon’s approach. IMD says the southwest monsoon may reach Delhi by June 24 and this light rain may soon grow stronger.
How To Stay Safe When The Rains Come
Carry an umbrella or raincoat when stepping out in the morning. Roads may turn slippery and sudden rain can reduce visibility so drive carefully. Do not stand under trees or metal poles during storms or lightning for your safety.
Relief Is Here But More Rain Is Coming
Delhi has finally received some relief from the heat and this may just be the beginning. Monsoon clouds are on their way and while the skies may stay cloudy and humid the intense summer is finally slowing down.
