Delhi-NCR Today’s Weather Update: Rain, Storms, Yellow Alert, Temps Plunge to 35–39°C

On a Saturday afternoon, when everyone was getting ready to call it a day, Delhi-NCR experienced a sudden change in weather. The sky turned dark overnight and voila, there were strong gusts of wind that blew into town, rustling leaves and dust as if Mother Nature was having a tantrum. Thereafter, there was a bamboozling rain and everyone was caught by surprise, the umbrella-less crowd among them scurrying for cover.

Delhi-NCR Surprise Weather

In a flash, the weather had changed so sharply from balmy sun to deluges as if invited to pre-monsoon. From South Delhi to Noida and Gurugram peripheries, people posted videos of trees swaying with the wind, hoardings shattered, and electricity cuts. Electricity flickered for a few seconds in some localities, particularly where winds became too strong. It was not rain, but the city seemed to gasp for breath for a moment.

Yellow Alert Issued: Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

The Indian Meteorological Department didn’t take long to issue a yellow alert. They warned that strong thunderstorms and winds up to 60 km/h might hit again in the next 24 hours. If you’re planning to step out, better keep a raincoat or umbrella handy and maybe avoid parking under trees!

Rain and Winds to Continue on June 1 and 2

Delhi and the suburbs of Ghaziabad, Noida, and Faridabad will see the same on June 1 and 2, weather forecasters predict. The winds may be 50 to 60 kmph, and the showers patchy but heavy. On the bright side, it will be a relief in the form of a cooling experience, with the temperature probably not rising above 36-39°C.

More Showers on June 3 and 4

June 3 and 4 may also experience light rain and breezes, although not as intense. Breezes would be 30–40 km/h, and possibly more in open areas. The temperature could decrease a bit to 35–37°C.

Partial Relief Ahead: Cloudy Skies on June 5 and 6

Until June 5 and 6, there will be no rain but only partly cloudy weather. Heat will come back by a bit with a maximum temperature of 39°C, but won’t be as cruel.

Rain relief came to NCR cities from the heat. This rain spell may turn out to be brief, but it’s a relief for Delhi-NCRites from dry, burning heat.
