Monsoon picks up Speed Across India
The monsoon season is finally looking serious. Having made its arrival in Kerala a bit ahead of schedule, it paused, moved at a snail’s pace and kept everyone on their toes. But now, it’s advancing at a swift rate. On Wednesday, the southwest monsoon moved further into Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, moving further into North India.
With this, rains have begun raining in over 20 states, from the northeast hills to southern shores. The coming days are likely to see light to heavy raining in all except a couple of places. Clouds are marching ahead, and it appears the skies are finally ready to open up.
Delhi is already seeing some drizzle here and there. Monsoon could arrive in Delhi between June 20 and June 23, announces the Indian Meteorological Department. Meanwhile, the skies over the city are expected to remain overcast, with a chance of moderate showers.
Lightning and thunderstorms are also in the offing. The actual rainy spell itself can start and persist till some time near June 25. So, if you do plan to venture out, pack your umbrella with you and perhaps anticipate a little traffic chaos.
UP Bihar and Others May See Heavy Showers
Eastern UP has already received the monsoon. The rains have started to fall in most places and the winds also have started to pick up. Within three or four days, the whole state will be covered with rain.
But not just UP. Some other states have also joined the list. Over the next 24 hours, coastal Karnataka, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Gujarat, and even Goa will experience rain. While some will get flooded, others will get only a light drizzle.
Where Else to Expect Rain
Regions of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and the western Himalayas are likely to experience scattered to moderate rainfall. Lakshadweep also has some rains in its pocket. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka, and Vidarbha districts of the south are expecting light rain.
