Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal, is not just a film it is a personal fight. Produced by Dharma Productions and featuring actors Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri, this emotional love story was stopped by many barriers to release in India. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked for 16 changes cut the scene, change the dialogue and soften the symbolism.
A Story of Love, Divided by Caste
The narrative shows Nilesh, a boy from one caste and Vidisha, a girl from another caste fighting until the end for their love and their coupledom but the censor board intervened when the film attempted to depict the poignant reality of social injustice-
1.A bold scene showing the shame associated with a Dalit character? Gone.
2.A bold line, citing thousands of years of diminishing speciesism? Not as bold.
