The Clouds Gather, the Temperatures Drop

In May, heat waves were sweeping across the country and millions were searching for relief. Now, monsoon clouds have begun their journey across India and are bringing cooler winds with drenching rains. Maharashtra and Karnataka have received their first major showers while coastal Konkan and the peripheries of Mumbai have received strong pre-monsoon rains. Although Mumbai had not received its first official rain downpour yet everything points to it coming soon!

Monsoon Ahead of Schedule – A Peculiar Weather Anomaly

This year’s monsoon is writing it’s own tale. IMD reports that the northern limit of the monsoon has shifted northward to include Devgarh, Belagavi, Haveri, Mandya, Dharmapuri, Chennai, Aizawl, and Kohima therefore more major cities such as mumbai and banglore are likely to receive more monsoon action very soon.

Weather forecast update: Orange alert by IMD for Patna

Typically the southwest monsoon hits Kerala around June 1 and reaches Mumbai by June 11 but this year we saw landfall in Kerala on May 25 ,the earliest since 2009. Which is almost a week earlier than when we would typically see landfall and has everyone excited for timely agriculture and a full water table.

Looking ahead, there will be positive signs for monsoon to go farther into Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and the rest of the northeastern states. The IMD is expecting rainfall for widespread areas of the country over the next three days which will help cool temperatures and hopefully refresh the dry lands.
