Big News: Toll to Get Cheaper from August 15
Starting this Independence Day, India’s toll system is going through a major makeover. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari just announced a new way to save on highway tolls, a yearly FASTag pass for just ₹3,000. And guess what, it lets you travel 200 times on national highways without paying any extra.
No more long queues. No more hefty toll slips piling up. This could be a real breather for regular travellers.
What’s the FASTag Pass All About?
So you give a one-time ₹3,000, and receive 200 free rides in a year or until the 200 rides are consumed, whichever comes first. This pass doesn’t cover trucks or taxis. It’s made just for private cars, jeeps, and vans—the non-commercial ones.
Gadkari posted the update himself on social media. He called it a historic move aimed at easing travel and giving everyday drivers a more affordable, smooth ride.
महत्वपूर्ण घोषणा। 📢

Simple Setup: App and Website Support
You won’t have to stand in lines to activate this pass either. Everything, from activation to renewal will be available online. The Rajmarg Yatra App, along with the official NHAI and MoRTH websites, will have a separate link just for this.
Government plans to keep it simple. One click. That’s all. No messy paperwork or confusing steps.
What Problems Will This Solve?
The new system is especially focused on a key issue: toll plazas that fall within 60 kilometers of each other. These have caused frustration for years. The FASTag pass fixes that.
By having a single, fixed cost and fewer payments, drivers won’t feel like they’re being charged every few minutes. It’ll cut down fights at toll booths, reduce waiting time, and keep traffic moving faster.
Travel Without Interruptions
Think of it—no halting every few kilometers, no haggling with toll men, no fishing for change. Just drive. The FASTag pass will let you breeze through toll gates like you’re on an express lane.
When Did This Idea Begin?
Back in April, during the News18 Rising Bharat Summit, Gadkari dropped a hint. He mentioned changes were coming soon. Now, it’s finally official.
With this new toll policy, India’s highways might just become a lot more driver-friendly.
When August 15 arrives, freedom won’t just be a word, it’ll also mean freedom from toll troubles.
