So let’s quickly see what ingredients we will need to make fish curry.

Ingredients for making fish curry:

Fish (rohu, katla, or favorite)—500 grams (cleaned)

Onion—2 medium (finely chopped)

Tomatoes—2 (finely chopped)

Garlic cloves—5-6

Ginger—1 inch piece

Green chili—2 (chopped)

Curd—2 tbsp (whipped)

Turmeric powder—1/2 tsp

Red chili powder—1 tsp

Coriander powder—1 tbsp

Cumin seeds—1/2 tsp

Mustard seeds—1/2 tsp (optional)

Curry leaves—5-6 (in South Indian style)

Garam masala—1/2 tsp

Salt—as per taste

Mustard oil/refined—4 tbsp

Coriander leaves—for garnishing

Water—as per requirement

Method to make fish curry:

Apply salt and turmeric to the fish pieces and keep for 10 minutes. Heat oil in a pan and fry the fish on both sides till it turns light golden. Remove and keep aside. Add some more oil in the same pan. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and fry till golden brown. Then add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies and fry till golden brown. Now add tomatoes and spices (turmeric, red chili, and coriander powder). Cook till tomatoes melt, and then add beaten curd and mix well. Cook till oil separates from the spices. Now add water as required and let it boil. Add roasted fish to the gravy and cook on low flame for 8–10 minutes. Finally, add garam masala and green coriander. Serve hot fish curry with basmati rice, cumin rice, or soft rotis.
