A big boost to sports, with CM announcing fresh development grants and Nurture for young talent
In one of the big announcements meant to elevate the sporting environment in Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, on Friday, announced that the Rs 20 lakh medical insurance scheme will now be implemented to cover all the players of the state.
The announcement came during the inauguration of the third All India Shiv Kumar Smriti Basketball Competition in Kiloi village, located in Rohtak district.
Empowering Athletes with Security and Opportunities
While conversing with the media at the event, CM Saini reiterated that the government shall encourage sports through policies and infrastructure. “With regard to this, he said, we would provide medical insurance of Rs 20 lakh without any cost to the player,” adding that any sportsperson needing this insurance due to injuries
faced in their sporting career would become financially secure.
The Insurance scheme extends the ambit of Haryana Utkrisht Khiladi Seva Niyam 2021, a policy construct tailored to advance sports and secure the future of talented athletes through government employment. At present, 224 players have already been given employment under this policy, whereas 550 posts in the Sports Department are to be increased.
It further provides reservation in direct recruitment for athletes in Class-I to Class-III government jobs for their lifetime career, ending after sports.
Rs 21 Lakh Grant for Sports and Community Development
He announced a grant of Rs 21 lakh for the development of the Shiv Kumar Smriti Stadium and of a Mahila Chaupal in Kiloi, thus reiterating the firm resolve of his government toward local development. This double investment would not only upgrade sports infrastructure, but also empower women with an arena for social
engagement and development.
Nurturing the Future Champions
While emphasizing the role of formative training in nurturing future champions, CM Saini said that the government is currently identifying and training young sporting talent through 1,489 sports nurseries across the state. These nurseries are presently catering to over 37,000 budding athletes with structured training and financial assistance.
An amount of Rs 1,500 is allocated for the monthly stipend for children aged between 8 and 14 years and an amount of Rs 2,000 is given for teenagers between 15 years and 19 years. The state has even since 2014, disbursed more than 53.45 crore grants as scholarships for more than 29,000 students, manifesting again
