You can serve this vegetable with kulcha, paratha, or naan. To make matar masala, we need fresh green peas and some ingredients that are easily available in the kitchen. Let us quickly know what ingredients we will need to make matar masala.
Ingredients to make matar masala :
- Green peas—1 cup (fresh or frozen)
- Tomatoes—2 (make puree)
- Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste—1 tsp
- Green chili—1 (chopped)
- Coriander powder—1 tsp
- Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
- Red chili powder—1/2 tsp
- Garam masala—1/2 tsp
- Kasuri methi—1/2 tsp
- Salt—according to taste
- Oil—2 tbsp
- Green coriander—for garnish
Method to make matar masala :
Soak peas in lightly salted water. Boil for 5–6 minutes or until soft, and take 1 whistle in a pressure cooker. Heat oil in a pan, add onions, and fry till golden brown. Now add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies; fry till the aroma comes out. Then add tomato puree and spices (turmeric, chili, and coriander powder) and fry till it leaves oil. Now add boiled peas and mix well. Add half a cup of water, cover, and cook for 5–7 minutes. Add garam masala and kasuri methi, and mix well. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
Serve matar masala with roti, paratha, naan, or jeera rice. You can make a rich gravy by adding curd or cashew paste instead of tomatoes. Add cream or butter on top to enhance the taste.
