Changing Weather and Sore Throats

It’s June, and the weather is doing its thing again. One day, it’s scorching hot. Next, it’s pouring rain with strong winds. It’s all putting so many people under the weather particularly with sore throats, colds, and low-grade temperatures. One of the first things to fall victim to this season is the sore, scratchy throat that just refuses to allow you to speak or swallow with ease.

When this happens, most of us remember what grandma always used to say: “Drink kadha.” But just what is this ancient herbal drink, and how does it work?

Why Kadha Works Like Magic

It is prepared from strong herbs and spices and is an ancient Ayurvedic drink. Hot, comforting, and which has its popularity for being used as medicine.. A glass of kadha can be a potion of magic, especially if your throat is sore or irritated.

It distinguishes itself with its own organic anti- inflammatory, antibacterial, and immunity-improving qualities. Drinking hot kadha relieves the discomfort, reduces the throat congestion, and thins the mucus congestion. And it helps your body to overcome the infection.

Summer-Friendly Kadha Recipe

You can skip kadha during summer according to most as they believe that it is only meant to be consumed during winter. But you can modify the ingredients and make it lighter but equally effective.

Here’s how you can make a cooling kadha for summer:

1. Boil two cups of water.

2. Add a few basil leaves (tulsi) and a pinch of carom seeds (ajwain).

3. Ten to twelve minutes of boiling.

4. Add a pinch of crushed ginger and fresh turmeric if available.

5. Add a pinch of jaggery (gur) for flavor.

6. Half boil it. Strain and drink it warm, not hot.

Drink this slowly, in small sips. Best consumed once or twice a day when symptoms appear.
