Bhai Dooj 2025: Date, Puja Timings, Significance & Auspicious Ayushmaan Yoga Explained

Bhai Dooj 2025: Bhai Dooj is the last and most emotional festival of the five sacred festivals of Diwali. This festival celebrates the sacred relationship in which a sister prays for her brother’s long life, happiness, and prosperity. This year, Bhai Dooj will be celebrated with devotion and joy across the country on Thursday, October 23rd.

Significance and Tradition of Bhai Dooj

According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated on the second day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of the month of Kartik. According to mythological beliefs, on this day, Yamraj visited his sister Yamuna, and since then, this day has become a symbol of brother-sister affection. On this occasion, sisters apply a tilak (a mark of love) on their brother’s forehead and pray for his well-being, while brothers shower their sisters with affection and gifts, wishing them happiness in their lives.

Bhai Dooj will be blessed with Ayushmaan Yoga

This year, a special coincidence is occurring on Bhai Dooj. According to astrologers, this time, one of the 27 auspicious yogas in the almanac—Ayushmaan Yoga—is forming. This yoga is considered a symbol of health, longevity, and prosperity. According to Pandit Vibhor Indoodutt, Kartik Shukla Dwitiya Tithi will begin at 8:16 pm on October 22nd and last until 10:46 pm on October 23rd. Since Dwitiya will only last from sunrise to nightfall on October 23rd, Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on that day.

Auspicious Time for Tilak and Puja Method

Morning is considered the most auspicious time for a Tilak. The auspicious Chaughadiya will last from 6:26 am to 7:51 am. After this, the best time for Char and Labh will be from 10:39 am to 1:27 pm. Sisters who cannot apply a tilak during the day can do so between 4:16 pm and 8:52 pm. During this time, there will be a special combination of Amrit and Labh Chaughadiya. Rahukaal will be observed between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm, which is considered inauspicious for a tilak.

During the puja, sisters make a square of rice and have their brother sit on it, then apply a tilak with vermillion, rice grains, flowers, and sweets. Applying a tilak with the mantra “Ganga worships Yamuna, Yamuna worships Yamraj…” blesses the brother with long life and good fortune.

Special remedies for happiness and prosperity

On this day, sisters light a four-sided lamp in the name of Yamraj at the doorstep of their home. This removes negative energy from the home and brings peace and prosperity. This lamp is considered a symbol of protection and good fortune in the lives of both the brother and the sister.

Thus, Bhai Dooj 2025 is not only an occasion to enhance the sweetness of relationships, but this time Ayushmaan Yoga is making it even more auspicious and blissful.
